Dyan Chan

Dyan’s professional experience includes more than 15 years in journalism, community relations, corporate philanthropy and communication. She has worked as a corporate manager as well as a consultant and community volunteer.

Before co-founding Lighthouse Blue, Dyan worked for 10 years at a global microchip manufacturer in various communication roles. She began her stint at this Fortune 500 Company in the corporate communications area, where she helped develop corporate messaging, company publications and executive presentations; then moved on to public relations, where she wrote and implemented communication and media plans for various company divisions and product lines.

During this time she also developed and published a quarterly newsletter for the company’s neighbors, helped articulate the company’s strategic plan for community relations, and created the company’s first communication plan for its community involvement program. Dyan’s work was instrumental in earning the company “Grantmaker of the Year” honors from the Silicon Valley Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (formerly the National Society of Fundraising Executives). Her efforts greatly increased public awareness of the company’s commitment to corporate citizenship, significantly enhancing the company’s reputation as an asset to the local community.

Dyan ultimately served as the manager of the company’s California community relations program, responsible for setting strategy and managing staff and budgets for all local community involvement efforts, including corporate contributions, employee volunteerism, employee giving, and local government relations. She built and maintained strong relationships with leaders and important stakeholders inside and outside the company, enhancing mutual cooperation and support for both company and community needs.

During her tenure as site community affairs manager, Dyan oversaw the awarding of more than $4 million in corporate contributions, including a leadership grant of $1 million to the Housing Trust of Santa Clara County. She also led the company’s involvement in a multi-million-dollar land donation, serving as the corporation’s community liaison and pulling together critical executives and managers from all over the company to win approval for this innovative project during the height of the commercial real estate boom in Silicon Valley.

Prior to her corporate stint, Dyan worked for five years as a journalist at local newspapers, where she honed her interviewing, research and writing skills, becoming adept at getting information and then organizing and distilling it accurately. During several years as the editor of a local community newspaper, Dyan gained extensive knowledge of the workings of the community. She also practiced her analytical and operational skills, as she made all editorial decisions and managed daily operations for the weekly publication.

Dyan has also been an active community volunteer, serving on the boards of directors for Leadership Sunnyvale, the Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce and Sunnyvale Community Services. She has also served on the education task force and Working Council for the Silicon Valley Leadership Group (formerly the Silicon Valley Manufacturing Group).

Dyan earned a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and communication from the University of Southern California and a certificate from the Center for Corporate Community Involvement at Boston College. She is a graduate of Leadership Sunnyvale.
