Theresa Wilson

Theresa Wilson’s professional background includes more than 20 years of experience as a corporate manager and independent consultant in the fields of corporate philanthropy, communication, community relations and human resources.

Immediately prior to co-founding Lighthouse Blue, Theresa spent seven years as an independent consultant for a number of local organizations in the public, private and nonprofit sectors. Her services ranged from advising on community outreach issues and developing strategic and operational plans in the areas of corporate philanthropy and community involvement, to serving as hands-on “virtual” staff – reviewing grant requests, writing press releases and editing collateral materials.

During her 14 years with a Fortune 500 high-tech company, Theresa created, planned and implemented effective and award-winning programs in the areas of business-education partnerships (for kindergarten through the university level), community relations, corporate philanthropy, employee volunteerism and cooperative education.

In her role as corporate community relations and corporate contributions manager, Theresa set strategy for the global disbursement of up to $4.2 million in grant moneys per year. She fostered meaningful relationships with community and education leaders, working to understand their issues and needs.

This strategy resulted in the development and implementation of a highly unique and effective plan for partnering with educators to help meet the needs of the “whole child,” as well as long-term and significant corporate involvement and investment in a public-private partnership with the city and local school district to build a $3 million service center dedicated to providing educational and health services to the local community.

She was also responsible for the creation and implementation of an innovative cooperative education program for engineering interns, earning the company the title of “Cooperative Education Employer of the Year,” awarded by the California State Cooperative Education Association.

During her career, Theresa has served on the board of directors for the Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce, as a member of the Mayor’s Council for Economic Vitality, as president of the Sunnyvale Elementary School District Education Foundation board of directors, and as a board member/advisor for Leadership Sunnyvale. She has served as speaker/panelist on corporate philanthropy and strategic planning through a number of community forums. She also served on the Cooperative Education Advisory Council for the University of Santa Clara.

Her extensive community awareness and involvement and her ability to create and implement high-impact programs earned her the title of Outstanding Businessperson of the Year, awarded by the City of Sunnyvale and the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, as well as an Award of Merit from the Leadership Sunnyvale Alumni Association and a Good Apple Award from the Sunnyvale Board of Education.

Theresa graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Santa Clara, and holds a certificate from the Center for Corporate Community Involvement from Boston College. She is also a graduate of Leadership Sunnyvale.
